Head Position

  • Finding the optimal head position for you

Key Points

  • Try four lots of 50m changing head position each time
  • Experiment which feels best from straight down, 1m forwards, 2m forwards and eyes just under the surface
  • Remember although looking straight down can raise up your bum and legs it can also harm your awareness of your catch and feel for the water
  • Looking further forwards has an advantage for drafting in open water

  • Put your head under your arms, take a little bunny hop with both feet high onto the wall and push off horizontally just under the surface of the water
  • Hold your legs together and straight and point your toes- you’ll be amazed how far you can go just with one push!
  • Start swimming just before you start to slow down
